Paleo diet also known as Paleolithic or dieta paleo instructs people to eat as their ancestors/cavemen did. It is composed of leafy greens, seeds, fruits, nuts and also beans. It can also be referred to as natural food because it is well-known that the cavemen or ancestors could not get complex carbohydrate or processed food available today. To help further know what it is, people on this diet should not eat many oils, legumes, grains added sugar and dairy.
What is Paleo diet?
The paleo term was first coined by a gastroenterologist called Walter Voegtlin. It was later developed by some two scientists Melvin Konner and Stanley Boyd during the 1980s. The popularity of the paleo diet became great in the year 2002 after Loren Cordain released a book having the same name. The relevance of this book to the diet is that Loren recommended a daily intake of 15 percent each of vegetables, nuts and seeds. He also recommended 55 percent daily intake of fish or lean protein. In the same book, Loren also stated that there should not be an intake of added salt or sugar and no greens or dairy.
Having known what paleo diet is and its origin, here are some of its benefits.
It Boosts Metabolic Rate
Eating more protein not only make people feel full for a long time but is also boosts metabolism. However, if the diet is not done in a proper way, some people may find themselves ending up having some deficiencies of vitamins. It is, therefore, advisable that before the diet is begun, a doctor’s advice should be sought.
Reduces the Risk of Diseases
Although the recipe is not that perfect, the main reason for taking the diet is to avoid those types of food that can be harmful to one’s health. The diet, therefore, gives a simple blueprint, to only eat what cavemen could eat and this is the simplest way to avoid crap foods. The diet also reduces the risk of diseases by ensuring that you take only whole foods, and this keeps you away from those foods that could cause some diseases.
It has been suggested scientifically that the leading cause of cardiovascular disease is inflammation. The kinds of food in the recipe are usually anti-inflammatory therefore minimizing the risk of getting cardiovascular diseases.
Other benefits are that it keeps the brain healthy, helps in weight loss, healthy cells and it keeps your gut healthy always.
How to Succeed?
It is something good but while on it, try to avoid added sugar or hidden sugar. These added sugars come from substances like alcohol, honey, agave syrup, stevia, and coconut. You can eat fruits and honey but in a moderate manner. When you avoid the hidden sugar, you will succeed in losing weight.
Another tip to succeed on this is to try eating organ meat like a piece of chicken. The organ meat is rich in minerals and vitamins, and this helps you in getting lots of nutrients.
There are still other successful tips and therefore, what you need to do is to consult a doctor before getting into the diet. Remember that if not practiced well, it can also cause harm because it is not that perfect but very beneficial.
