Miller Homes Preview 13/03/10

Since losing their opening two games and then drawing against BAE Warton back in October Garstang Blues have gone on a run which has seen the win ten games on the spin as well as having two walkovers thrown in.  During the course of a normal season a team on this sort of run would be virtually home and hosed by now.  However, Penrith 3rds have had an equally impressive season and, despite being involved in a cup run which ended two weeks ago, they have also notched up an impressive winning streak as they have not been defeated since mid-October.  Last week they drew at Carnforth and dropped points for the first time since that defeat.

With just six and seven games left for the Blues and Penrith respectively the game takes on massive significance tomorrow.  However, whatever happens will not be the end of the story as the last game of the season is set up for a potential decider on April 24th.  The game kicks off at 15:00 and there will be a coach leaving from Garstang at 12:45, players to meet at 12:30.

I’m so excited about the game that the rest of the fixtures barely take on any significance.  However, Tarleton 2nds are sat in second place in the league but they have a very tough fixture at Fylde tomorrow.  Should they prevail they will be in a great position to apply pressure to the top two during the run-in.

Miller Homes Four North Fixtures:

Fleetwood 3                 vs                     Preston GH 5

Penrith 3                       vs                     Garstang Blues

Kirkby Lonsdale 3        vs                     Carnforth 2

Furness 2                     vs                     Thornton Cleveleys 2

Blackburn 3                  vs                     BAE Warton 1

Fylde 5                         vs                     Tarleton 2

In Five North the Lions will be looking to maintain their remarkable surge of form which has taken them to third place in the league.  Two weeks ago the Lions should have been playing Burnley 3rds at home but they forfeited the game and the Lions were awarded the points.  The rules also state that of a team forfeits an away game they have to play the re-match away from home.  The game will now take place at Hudson Park, kicking off at 15:15 straight after the 1st XV game.  The Lions will be looking to get another win and maintain that momentum going into the final month of the season.

Miller Homes Five North Fixtures:

Blackpool 2                  vs                     Orrell 2

Garstang Lions             vs                     Burnley 3*

Clitheroe 2                   vs                     Hawcoat Park 2

Aspull 1                        vs                     Colne & Nelson 2

Bolton 4                       vs                     Chorley 2
